VACX Richmond Festival of Cross, October 8, 2011
Ben Frederick has been racing a fantastic cyclocross season, with 6 podiums and 3 wins. Two of them this weekend. The Richmond Festival of Cross is a part of the VACX series in the state, and big names in the area like Joe Dombrowski and Greg Wittwer were racing agains Ben in the 1/2/3 event on Saturday afternoon. Ben, Joe and Greg were in the lead group the entire time and traded back and forth on first place until the last lap when Dombrowski was dropped and Wittwer and Frederick battled it out in the last 100 yards. Ben bunny-hopped the obstacles and it gave him just enough edge to take the lead in the final turn to take the win. Sunday he continued the winning streak by taking the 1/2/3 event in Hyattesville, Maryland at the Hyattesville CX, by time-trialling his way to the finish in the last 30 minutes of the race, giving him first place overall in the MABRA Cyclocross Series.
